Take One

Take One! provides educators with the opportunity to "take one" of the video portfolio entries that comprise National Board Certification and have that entry scored by NBPTS. Participants will choose from any of the National Board's current certificate areas and prepare and submit the pre-selected video portfolio entry for  that certificate. This allow teachers to match their Take One! professional development experience with their individual teaching situation.

Take One!™ is a new staff development offering from the National Board for Professional Teaching StandardsÆ (NBPTSÆ) that is standards-based, content specific, and job-embedded. NBPTS developed the Take One! so that all educators can be introduced to professional teaching standards and their impact on improving student achievement

NBPTS is best known for establishing high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do and a voluntary system (National Board CertificationÆ) for certifying teachers who meet those standards. Teachers who have completed the National Board Certification process consistently call it the best professional development they have experienced. In addition, research studies show that teacher who undertake the process:

  • Think more systematically about their practice,
  • Improve their teaching,
  • Work collaboratively in professional learning communities, and,
  • Increase their students' learning.

Contact Jennifer Gambrell if your school would like to participate in whole school professional development through the Take One process; funding could be available.
