Today, teacher quality is on the national agenda as never before. Emphasis is constantly placed on teacher accountability and student results. School districts that only focus on high-stake consequences tied to testing, and have neglected to include professional development for teachers, place limitations on their students' achievement. Studies show that knowledge of how to teach is as important as knowledge of what to teach.
In 2013, OCTP awarded 23 Transforming Educator Development Grants to 14 educator preparation programs. Grants were awarded for projects informing best practice, reflecting educator preparation transformation and aligned to InTASC standards. Research included initiatives in P12 clinical partnerships, teacher performance assessment, and educator preparation reforms.
