Application for Licensure

Welcome to Oklahoma!  According to the Psychologists Licensing Act, it is mandatory that all persons who wish to represent themselves as a psychologist, and/or practice psychology by offering psychological services to the public be licensed by this Board.

CPQ/ABPP APPLICANTS:
If you are are a diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), or hold a Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology (CPQ) from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Board, click here.

ALL OTHER APPLICANTS:
The Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists has partnered with the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Board (ASPPB) to offer a Psychology Licensure Universal Application (PLUS).  The "PLUS" is an online system designed to allow individuals to apply for licensure, certification, or registration in any state or province in the United States or Canada while enabling a concurrent application for the ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ).  All information collected as part of your licensure application is automatically deposited and saved in the ASPPB Credentials Bank. In this way, application information is "banked" in a permanent Credentials Bank.  The Credentials Bank provides a way for psychologists to store evidence of their professional education, experience, prior licensure, exam performance and other achievements, all of which are primary source verified.   Once archived, this information can be accessed and submitted to any psychology licensing board upon written request.

Please note:  ASPPB does not determine your eligibility for licensure.  When you submit a PLUS application for licensure, your complete application is forwarded to the Oklahoma Board, where the Application Review Committee then will determine your eligibility for licensure.

There are three steps to the application process; it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all steps are complete to be eligible for review.  Please follow the steps below carefully, failure to do so will delay the application process.

Step 1:

Applicant must submit the following to the Board office:

  • Applicant Information Form
  • Citizen’s Affidavit (Must be notarized)
    • Options 1 and 2, select applicable
  • $400 Application Fee – includes the ASPPB PLUS service(mail Check or Money Order to OSBEP)
  • Two passport photos
  • *Along with Step 3, if Post Doc is not completed (if applicable)

Upon receipt in the Board office of ALL the above items, the applicant’s contact information will be provided to ASPPB to begin the full online application process.  ASPPB will send a welcome email to start the online PLUS application.

Step 2:

  • Log in to the ASPPB website with the login and password provided in the welcome email. There is no additional charge for this service.
  • The applicant must complete the PLUS online application process through ASPPB.  All materials required must be sent directly to ASPPB, including official transcripts.   Feel free to refer to the Application Resource Guide for basic requirements in Oklahoma.

Once all items have been submitted and attested to via the PLUS online system, ASPPB will forward your complete application to the Board office, where the Application Review Committee (not at a Board Meeting) then will determine your eligibility for licensure. Upon approval, applicants will be notified via email and may then schedule to sit for the examinations. (see Exam Information)

Step 3:

If *Post Doc is not complete, you will need to submit the Practice Under Supervision Application which applies to you:

  • Institutional Practice Under Supervision or Private Practice Under Supervision Application along with the $200 fee, is to be submitted to the Board (with your initial application from Step 1) for approval prior to beginning any clinical services.  Supervision applications are reviewed by the Application Review Committee at the same time as the completed PLUS application.
  • If Post Doc is in an exempt setting (State Agency/ OU, TU, VA or OSU) you must submit the Post Doc in an Exempt Setting Form to the Board office.  (no fee is required)
  • Please review the Supervision Guidelines for Licensure Candidates for more information.

If Post Doc IS complete:

  • submit confirmation of the postdoctoral experience online via PLUS application for attestation from your supervisor.
