How to Resolve Java Runtime Errors 
 

If you are experiencing Java issues with editing and/or saving your pages (i.e., the "Design" tab to access the text editor), please follow the steps below to resolve the errors. If you are experiencing slow response time while in the "Design" (text editor) area, please clear your Java Console cache as described below.

Verify Java Version

Click on the button below to verify the version of Java currently installed on your computer.

Note

Most browser changes require a restart of the browser. If so, all instances of the browser must be closed.

 

Improve the Speed of the Text Editor

Clear Java Console Cache

The Java Console should load whenever you access the text editor. When it does, clear the contents often by clicking on the "Clear" button.

> If Your Java Console Does not Load:

- Go to: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Java.
- Go to: Advanced tab.
- In the Java Console section, ensure the "Show Console" option is selected.
- Also, in the Java Plugin section, ensure the "Enable the Next Generation Java Plug-in" is enabled.

 


STEP 1: Uninstall all Versions of Java 

For Windows XP Users:

- Go to: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
- Select JRE versions listed and remove them one by one.
- Go to: C:->Documents and Settings ->User ->Application Data ->Sun ->Java.

- Delete the Java folder.
- Now go to: Manual download page and download latest version of Java.

For Windows Vista/7 Users:

- Go to: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features.
- Select JRE versions listed and remove them one by one.
- Go to: C:->Documents and Settings->User->Application Data->Sun->Java.

- Delete the Java folder.
- Now go to: Manual download page and download latest version of Java.

> If you are still experiencing errors, please proceed to step 2.

 

STEP 2: Turn Off Third Party Extensions

Internet Explorer

- Open Browser
- Go to: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Ensure "Enable Third Party Browser Extensions" is selected.

Firefox

- Does not apply.

> If you are still experiencing errors, please proceed to step 3.

 

STEP 3: Disable/Enable Add-Ons 

Internet Explorer

- Open Browser
- Go to: Tools -> Manage Add-Ons -> Enable the "Java Plug-In SSV Helper" and "Java Plug-In 2 SSV Helper" add-ons, and disable any other Java related add-ons that could be problematic.

Firefox

- From the browser menu bar, click Tools ->Add-Ons ->Plugins (on the left) ->Enable the Java Applet, and disable any other Java related add-ons that could be problematic.


If you do not have administrative rights to your computer to make this update, contact your IT dept. for assistance.
