Article I of the Wagoner County LEPC by-laws
The purpose of the LEPC shall be:
A. To carry out for Wagoner County those responsibilities required of the LEPC pursuant to Public Law 99-499, Superfund Amendments and Re-authorization Act of 1986 (SARA), Title III, and related regulations including but not limited to:
1. Development, training, and testing of hazardous substances emergency response plan for Wagoner County.
2. Development of procedures for regulated facilities to provide notification to the LEPC in accordance with SARA, Title III.
3. Development of procedures for receiving and processing requests from the public under the community right-to-know provisions of Title III, SARA.
4. Provision for public notification of committee activities.
B. To implement such other and further related activities as may hereafter be legally required to the Federal Government and the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC).
C. To act as an advisory group for planning and implementation of other emergency response capabilities on a county level.
How the LEPC helps the community
- All Oklahoma counties are supposed to have a LEPC.
- It is a requirement for hazardous materials reporting.
- The committee consists of public, private and government entities.
- Interact with public schools helping them to create emergency response plans.
- Help private businesses who have reportable hazardous waste review response plans.
- Review emergency response and operating plans for County Emergency Management and Health Department. Also schedule drills and exercises.
- Hazard mitigation.
