CVS/caremark is the New Pharmacy Benefit Manager
Effective Jan. 1, 2016, CVS/caremark is the new pharmacy benefit manager for HealthChoice. The transition from Express Scripts (ESI) to CVS/caremark has gone smoothly resulting in little disruption for our members.
As part of this change, HealthChoice has terminated its Part D contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. However, Part D benefits continue to be provided to our HealthChoice Medicare supplement plan members through the contract with CVS/caremark and its SilverScript Employer Prescription Drug Plan. To reflect this partnership with CVS/caremark and SilverScript, the Medicare supplement plans are now known as the HealthChoice SilverScript High Option Medicare Supplement Plan and the HealthChoice SilverScript Low Option Medicare Supplement Plan.
Although CVS/caremark is administering the pharmacy benefits for HealthChoice, you are not required to use a CVS pharmacy. In fact, there is little change to the pharmacies participating in the HealthChoice Pharmacy Network. All major chains, such as CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, etc., as well as local independent pharmacies, continue to be part of the Network.
You should have recently received a new pharmacy ID card. It is important that you present this new ID card to your pharmacist when you get a prescription filled after Jan. 1. If you do not present your new ID card, your pharmacist may tell you that your coverage has been terminated delaying you getting your prescription. If you have not received your new pharmacy ID card, please contact CVS/caremark at:
- Pre-Medicare and Without Part D Plans – 1-877-720-9375 or TTY 711
- SilverScript Plans – 1-866-275-5253 or TTY 711
The transition from ESI to CVS/caremark also resulted in formulary changes for HealthChoice health plan members. For information on how this affects you, please select the link below that applies to you.
