The mission of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission is to establish minimum statewide codes affecting or relating to the built environment for the protection of life and property, to be utilized throughout the state, assuring public health, safety, and welfare. 

OUBCC Technical Review Committees

Call for Volunteers

The OUBCC is calling for volunteers to serve on technical committees. There will be one technical committee to review the 2023 National Electrical Code® for possible adoption. There will be two technical committees to review the 2021 Editions of the International Building Code®, International Existing Building Code®, International Fire Code®, International Fuel Gas Code®, International Mechanical Code®, and International Plumbing Code®. Volunteers wishing to serve on these committees should fill a Technical Committee Application Form and return it to the OUBCC by Thursday June 1, 2023. The approved committee positions are listed below.

A single-subject committee will be reviewing the IFC and looking at ways to provide alternative methods to meet the intent of the code related to the installation and use of fire suppression systems and other issues in rural water districts.

Public Comment

Public comment forms may be filled out by anyone who wants to propose a change to any of the technical committees created to review the codes listed above. Once the technical review committees begin, all public comment forms will be considered by the appropriate committee.

2018 International Energy Conservation Code Review

Update #1: The Energy Conservation Technical Committee has completed review of the 2018 IRC, Chapter 11 and several other applicable code sections and made recommendations to the Commission for modifications to the IRC. The committee requested the Commission reconsider which edition of the International Energy Conservation Code to review. The commission voted at the January 18, 2022 meeting to change the review to the 2018 edition. The committee will commence work on that next. New meeting dates have been scheduled and are on the technical committee page.

The Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission (the "OUBCC") may collect personally identifiable data in the course of its duties, as supplied by employees, applicants, permittees, licensees, and vendors, or other individuals doing business with or interacting with the agency. "Personally identifiable data" means information which can identify an individual including, but not limited to, name, birth date, place of birth, mother's maiden name, biometric records, Social Security number, official state- or government-issued driver license or identification number, alien registration number, government passport number, employer or taxpayer identification number, or any other information that is linked or linkable to an individual, such as medical, educational, financial, or employment information. 74 O.S. § 3106.4. Personally identifiable data is stored securely in accordance with Oklahoma law, as well as the State of Oklahoma's Information Security Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines available at Policy, Standards & Publications (oklahoma.gov)

The OUBCC only responds to Oklahoma Open Records requests from people that make a proper official open records request. OUBCC is also subject to and complies with the Oklahoma Open Records Act, 51 O.S. §§ 24A.1 - 24A.33. In accordance with said law, some agency records must be made available for review and copying upon request. Where required by law, particular elements of personally identifiable data will be redacted before making records available. OUBCC will also share personally identifiable data in response to a properly issued court order or subpoena.
