The mission of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission is to establish minimum statewide codes affecting or relating to the built environment for the protection of life and property, to be utilized throughout the state, assuring public health, safety, and welfare.
Pursuant to Executive Order 2020-07, the State of Oklahoma is under a state of emergency, declared March 15, 2020 and effective through April 30, 2020. For the safety of our employees and the public, the OUBCC has temporarily transitioned to teleworking for our staff. The OUBCC encourages you to reach out to our staff via email. OUBCC Technical Committees
2018 International Residential Code Review
The OUBCC has created two more technical committees to review the 2018 International Residential Code®. The first committee will review the building portion of the IRC, except Chapter 11, which will be reviewed by a separate committee. The second committee will review the fuel gas, mechanical and plumbing portions of the IRC, except Chaper 11.
For those wishing to serve on either of these committees, please fill out the appropriate application. Applications will be received until committee positions are filled.
2020 NEC Committee and 2015 IRC Ice and Water Barrier, Roofing Evaluation Committee
The OUBCC has voted to create two new technical committees. The first will review the 2020 National Electrical Code, along with the residential portion of the 2018 International Residential Code. The other committee will review the Ice and Water Barrier Roofing issue in the 2015 International Residential Code. Below are volunteer applications for each committee if you wish to volunteer.
The application period for these committees has been extended the committee positions can be filled.
The OUBCC adopted emergency rules at the January 21, 2020 meeting. These emergency rules have been submitted to the Governor for approval. The rules will go into effect upon approval of the Governor. See below for a copy of the rules as submitted to the Governor for approval.
Code Adoption In Process
NOTE: The March 17, 2020 public hearing and regular Commission meeting was cancelled due to a lack of a quorum. Since no public hearing was held, the rulemaking process on the rules listed below has stopped. The rulemaking process will need to be restarted at the beginning and will be addressed by the Commission after the current COVID-19 pandemic has been resolved.
The OUBCC has reviewed 2018 Editions of the International Building Code® (IBC®), International Existing Building Code® (IEBC®), International Fire Code® (IFC®), International Fuel Gas Code® (IFGC®), International Mechanical Code® (IMC®) and International Plumbing Code® (IPC®), as well as the 2017 National Electrical Code® (NEC®) for possible adoption.
Draft Rules have been written and posted on our "Proposed Rules" page. A public comment period is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 through Friday, March 6, 2020 and a public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.
