OSBI Helps Investigate Crime Spree
The Seminole County Sheriff and Konawa Police Chief requested OSBI assistance in a morning crime spree that started at a Konawa medical center.
Just after 9:30 this morning, two men walking past the Oklahoma Family Medical Center in Konawa carjacked Ruben Brewer. Brewer fought back as a Good Samaritan also tried to help. That Good Samaritan, Jimmy Cunningham, was shot and critically wounded in the incident. He was airlifted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Brewer was taken by ambulance to Valley View Hospital in Ada with head injuries.
The two suspects got away in Brewer’s truck. They drove 1 mile south of Maud, stopped an OG&E contractor, and stole his vehicle. The pair drove into Maud and robbed the Quick Stop at 218 E. Wanda Jackson. Inside the store, the suspects demanded a customer hand over the keys to her vehicle. Inside this car, they then drove about 1 ½ miles to the Trinity Baptist Church and stole the church van. From Maud, they drove to Tecumseh and robbed a pharmacy. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department picks up the investigation from there.
One of the suspects was apprehended and is in the custody of the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office. Officials are searching for the other suspect. OSBI is searching databases for a photograph to share with law enforcement and the public.
The OSBI is investigating the shooting and assault and battery in Konawa, 4 carjackings, and the convenience store robbery.
