Suspect Identified in Scenic Turnout Carjacking
Last week, a Texas man was shot, robbed and his car stolen at the scenic turnout exit off of Interstate 35 between Pauls Valley and Ardmore. The victim, Kevin Grimes, was found minutes later by a Good Samaritan who called emergency personnel to the scene. Grimes was released from the hospital earlier this week.
Before going into surgery for a gunshot wound to the neck, Grimes was able to give police a description of the suspect vehicle and the male and female suspects. That black and red pickup truck was found Wednesday by Love County Sheriff’s deputies on a dirt road off of exit 24 from Interstate 35.
OSBI crime scene agents are processing that vehicle for any evidence that links back to the carjacking. In the meantime, OSBI has identified and filed arrest warrants on two suspects, 48-year-old Steven Scott Redmond and Mary Smith or Mary Harris who is in her 20s. The female suspect has a large tattoo of a panther on her lower right leg. Both suspects have warrants for robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill and auto theft.
Redmond has been in and out of jails/prisons since he was 18 years old. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous. Redmond has numerous arrests and convictions out of Texas including murder, robbery, and cruelty to animals.
