OSBI Helps in Cherokee County Murder Investigation

Early Wednesday morning, Cherokee County officials learned of a homicide in the Horseshoe Bend area of Lake Tenkiller.  Deputies found the body of Ronnie Hall (dob 5/14/60) floating in the water in that area.  The body was taken to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine exact cause and manner of death.  However, it appears Hall was shot to death.

Cherokee County requested OSBI assistance in this case.  During the investigation, agents identified Robert Lee Smallen (dob 4/28/52) as a suspect.  He was arrested hours after the murder and booked into the county jail on a murder complaint.  Later in the day, a Cherokee County District Judge officially charged Smallen with first degree murder and set no bond.

The investigation revealed the victim and suspect knew each other and drove to the lake together.   Officials are still investigating the motive for the murder.  Both men are from the Muskogee area.
