Handgun Safety & Training Certificates Valid for Three Years
Effective November 1, 2014, Handgun Safety and Training Certificates are valid for three (3) years from the date of issue.
An SDA applicant who previously submitted a valid training certificate to OSBI has satisfied the one-time training requirement and will not be required to submit a new certificate.
First-time applicants will need to submit valid, original, signed training certificates indicating weapon-type authorized for carry. A certificate is valid if no more than 3 years has elapsed between issuance of the certificate and the date applicants process through the sheriff's office in their county of residence. Expired training certificates will not be accepted; applications submitted with expired training certificates will be returned unprocessed.
