VOLUNTEER SERVICES SPECIALIST, Z50
Positions in this job family are involved in planning, coordinating and supervising the activities of a volunteer program at a state facility. This includes recruiting, selecting, and assigning volunteers, promoting the program with public relations activities, and developing and maintaining community contacts and support for the program.

The Volunteer Services Specialist job family has two levels which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.
LEVEL I: Code: Z50A Salary Band: H
This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing a full range of duties at the full-performance level with little or no supervision in the planning, coordination and supervision of volunteer services for a state facility. This includes researching informational materials and maintaining community and media contacts, arranging for speeches, lectures, and press conferences, and administratively supervising volunteers, or assisting in the planning, coordination and supervision of a volunteer program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles and methods of conducting, coordinating and supervising programs related to contribution and promotional campaigns; of the organization, its functions, policies and procedures; of recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers; of media sources; and of spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and sentence and paragraph construction. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to gather, organize and present information, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in public relations, promotional work, community service or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LEVEL II: Code: Z50B Salary Band: I
This is the leadership level of this job family where employees are primarily assigned responsibility for developing and administering a volunteer program for a state facility. In this role, they will develop and maintain community and media contacts, administer volunteer recognition programs, and promote the volunteer program through public relations activities. Positions are assigned responsibility for supervision of other Volunteer Services Specialists, including assigning and reviewing work, training, and evaluating performance. Some positions may provide direct supervision which includes responsibilities for employee development, approving leave and initiating disciplinary actions, as well as performing related administrative functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus additional knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of professional experience in public relations or in organizing and coordinating community service projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
