PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR, S16
Positions in this job family are responsible for performing and supervising a variety of advanced professional tasks involved in land surveying geodetic surveying, American Land Title Association (ALTA)/American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) surveys, dependent or independent surveys and resurveys of the public land system; serve as an expert witness for state and local agencies, consultants and the public; to bear a high level of liability for professional survey decisions; and supervise the work of one or more survey location parties.
The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
The Professional Land Surveyor job family has two levels which are distinguished by the level of the complexity of specific job assignments, the level of expertise required for completion of assigned tasks, and responsibility assigned for overseeing multiple projects and/or crews.
Level I: Code: S16A Salary Band: M
This is the career level where incumbents perform professional surveying work in establishing design highway alignment and land boundaries for various activities as directed by higher authority. They oversee a survey party consisting of professional and/or technical staff, or other personnel engaged in completing land surveying projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of Oklahoma Statutes pertinent to land surveying, land titles or deeds and/or grants; of surveying principles and practices; and of the principles and practices of effective supervision. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to exercise judgment in analyzing situations; to organize projects; to establish survey control and property boundaries; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as a Land Surveyor with the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Level II: Code: S16B Salary Band: N
This is the specialist level where incumbents perform professional surveying work in establishing land boundaries for various activities such as highway right-of-way acquisitions and for other purposes as directed by higher authority and oversee multiple survey crews and/or multiple survey projects including urban projects involving numerous or multiple platted subdivisions or complex interchange projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus ability is required to organize and conduct multiple projects simultaneously.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as a Land Surveyor with the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and two years of land surveying experience subsequent to registration.
