FORESTRY FIRE CONTROL OFFICER, L20
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the operation of communications equipment in an ODAFF - Forestry Division Dispatch center, for dispatching fire suppression resources and related work.

The Forestry Fire Control Officer job family consists of three levels which are distinguished based on the type and complexity of work, experience level, expertise required to perform assigned duties and the responsibility for the supervision or direction of others.
Level I Code: L20A Salary Band: G
This is the entry level of the job family where incumbents, under general supervision, receive reports of smoke, fire and other incidents. Dispatches fire suppression personnel, and other field personnel for fires and non-emergencies through the use of a computer-aided dispatch system, two-way radio, and telephone.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a high school diploma or General Education Development equivalency certificate and shall possess six (6) months of previous experience as a dispatcher or fifteen (15) completed semester hours from an accredited college or university.
Level II Code: L20B Salary Band: H
This is the career level of this job family where incumbents operate under limited supervision and receives reports of smoke, fire and other incidents. Dispatches fire suppression personnel, and other field personnel for fires and non-emergencies through the use of a computer aided dispatch system, two-way radio, and telephone. Incumbent also tracks firefighter qualifications and experience using the Incident Qualification System (IQS) Software.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level I plus knowledge of weather, climate, fire weather conditions and application to fire behavior; of electronic voice and data communications equipment; and of computer aided dispatch and geographical information system (GIS) software. Ability is required to exercise sound judgment in complex situations and adopt appropriate courses of action; to organize dispatch operations; and to establish and maintain records and reports.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of experience as a Forestry Fire Control Officer and completion of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group courses: I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System, I-200 Intermediate Incident Command System, S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-130 Basic Firefighter, S-270 Basic Air Operations, and S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior.
Level III Code: L20C Salary Band: I
This is the leadership level of the job family where incumbents are assigned responsibility for directly supervising the operations of an assigned shift as a Communications Supervisor and will directly supervise dispatchers who support the operation of a Regional or Statewide Communications Center. This includes reviewing the work of assigned staff, providing assistance as needed, evaluating performance, employee development, disciplinary actions and other related tasks. Plans and schedules staffing around workload and directs the operation of the dispatch center to ensure standards are being met. Assists in the hiring and training of new dispatchers and coordinates training needs of current dispatchers.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include those identified in Level II plus knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices; and of training methods and practices. Ability is required to organize dispatch operations and dispatch personnel.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus one additional year of qualifying experience and successful completion of S-390 Fire Behavior Calculations and Behave/Behave Plus Fire Behavior Training.
Applicants must be able to work long hours, up to a sixteen hour shift.
Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Some positions may require completion of specific training courses and/or certification related to the job family.
