Purpose of the Meeting:
The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed design to the public and to get input to further assist in the identification of critical social, economic, and environmental effects that may result from the project.
The project will begin east of Douglas Boulevard and will extend approximately 4.8 miles east to the westbound lanes of I-240. This project is one of several projects planned for the I-40 corridor from I-35 to I-240. ODOT is currently studying improvements to the I-40 corridor to improve traffic operations and provide adequate vertical clearance under some of the existing bridges. ODOT currently has projects underway at I-40 and Douglas Boulevard as well as on I-40 from I-240 east to Choctaw Road. The current project is located between these two ongoing projects and provides a connection between the two.
The proposed project includes the reconstruction and widening of I-40 from east of Douglas Boulevard to the westbound lanes of I-240 from four to six lanes. The additional lane will be constructed to the inside of the existing lanes. The two directions of traffic will be separated by a concrete barrier. The proposed new roadway will have six 12-foot-wide driving lanes and 10-foot-wide outside shoulders, or as wide as can be achieved without requiring additional right-of-way. I-40 will be lowered in the vicinity of Post Road to provide adequate vertical clearance under the Post Road bridge. The bridge at Westminster Road over I-40 will be raised to provide adequate vertical clearance over I-40. The bridges on I-40 over Anderson Road and over westbound I-240 will be replaced. I-40 will remain open during construction.
