Meet the Secretary of Transportation/
In June 2017, Governor Fallin appointed Mike to join her cabinet as Secretary of Transportation for the State of Oklahoma. He continues to serve as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, as he has since 2013. Prior to that appointment he served as the Deputy Director for the agency for three years as well as filling the role of Chief Financial Officer since September 1999. Mike previously served as the Comptroller for the agency for 15 years, having begun his career with ODOT as the Deputy Comptroller in 1980.
Mike has been active with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials for many years serving in several leadership roles. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Administration and as a member of the Strategic Management Committee. Mike also serves as a member of the Governmental Technology Review Board for the State of Oklahoma.
His education credentials consist of a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Central State University, now the University of Central Oklahoma, in 1976 and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1993.
He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma Employees Credit Union. His service with the credit union began in 1983 when he served on the Supervisory Committee until 1991. Since that time he has served as a member of the Board of Directors in various leadership positions.
His spare time is devoted to coaching girls fast pitch softball and piloting airplanes.
Mike and his wife, Joy, live in Edmond and have two daughters and five granddaughters.
