Feds Look to Boost Disability Employment - The Federal Government is actively recruiting and hiring persons with disabilities. We offer a variety of exciting jobs, competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and opportunities for career advancement. Hiring people with disabilities into Federal jobs is fast and easy. People with disabilities can be appointed to Federal jobs non-competitively through a process called Schedule A. Learn how to be considered for Federal jobs under the noncompetitive process. Oklahoma ABLE-Tech - Oklahoma ABLE Tech is the statewide Assistive Technology Act Program proudly located at Oklahoma State University in the Department of Wellness. ABLE Tech's mission is to improve access to and acquisition of assistive technology (AT) for individuals with disabilities of all ages. A tremendous variety of AT and resources are available.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS
OKC Salvation Army Food Pantry- The Salvation Army at 520 S. Hudson in Oklahoma City has a food pantry from 9-12 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. There are income guidelines. Approved application allows client to shop once per month. Bring a picture ID, your Social Security card, a current utility bill, and proof of income. The Hearing Loss Association
The Hearing Loss Association has a morning and evening group and a Norman group which offers support to people who experience hearing loss. The evening group meets at the Lakeside United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month. The afternoon meets at the same location at 1:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month. The Norman group meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of alternative months beginning in January. The Hearing Loss Association maintains a loan closet of adaptive equipment at 5100 N. Brookline, Ste. 100 in Oklahoma City. Call 405-717-9820 to schedule an appointment to view the equipment. Call M-F 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
VETERAN'S INFORMATION
Employment and Veterans - The local One-Stop Career Centers also known as Workforce Oklahoma connect people with actual available jobs. They serve everyone including veterans. The Workforce centers in Altus, Ardmore, Chickasha, Durant, Enid, Lawton, Miami, Muskogee, Norman, Oklahoma City, Okmulgee, Ponca City, Poteau, Pryor and Tulsa have this staff position available to serve veterans.
Visit Resources for Veterans which is a good website for veterans looking for jobs. The Oklahoma Director for Veterans Employment and Training is Kenneth Allen.
