Lou Kohlman was appointed to the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women by Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan in 2006. She has been very active on the commission serving as Secretary from 2006-2009, as Chair of the Kate Barnard Luncheon and Award Ceremony for 2008 and 2009, and as Chair of the Women and Leadership Committee for 2008 and 2009. As an advisory council member, she has co-chaired the Oklahoma Women's Summit in 2004 and 2006. Kohlman has represented the commission at NACW conferences, and as a member of the Legislative Task Force on Stopping Sexual Violence from September 2006-January 2007.
Graduating from Harvard Law School in1986, Kohlman is a member of the Oklahoma, California and Massachusetts Bar Associates, the Oklahoma County Bar Association and the Oklahoma American Indian Bar Association.
Kohlman has been involved with numerous organizations at every level and her dedication to public service is evidence in the various tasks and positions she takes on with each organization. She is a Board Member of Oklahoma Academy, participating as a member of the Research and Planning Committees for 2008 Town Hall, a panel leader for the 2004 Town Hall, a member of the 2007 Town Hall Implementation Committee and has served on the Executive, Legislative, and Business and Industry committees of the same. Within Oklahoma Academy, Kohlman has also served as Proxy to Steering Committee of the Oklahoma Constitution Project in 2000. She is also a Leadership Oklahoma Class XV graduate and a member of the Program Committee. Kohlman is a member and the Director for the Harvard Club. Kohlman has also served as President, Vice President and Board Member of Oklahoma County League of Women Voters.
With an interest in the Arts, Kohlman has been a Board Member and Vice President for Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park. She is also a soprano soloist for St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral and for the Oklahoma Redhawks. She is a member and soloist with the Musica Sacra Chamber Choir.
