Instructor Application and Identification Process:
In February 2008, The National Integration Center (NIC) released the 5-year training plan for NIMS. It specifies NIC and stakeholder responsibilities and activities for developing, maintaining, and sustaining the National Training Programs for NIMS. Besides spanning NIC and stakeholder responsibilities and actions, the Plan defines the PROCESS for developing both training and personnel qualification requirements for emergency management response personnel:
In this document, specific objectives were identified for program coordinators and stakeholders. Among those goals identified for year 2009-2010 there is a requirement for the identification of qualified NIMS Instructors in our state. In an effort to complete this objective, the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security has developed an application for the primary purpose of identifying qualified instructors.
If you wish to become a certified NIMS instructor in Oklahoma, please complete the application on page 6 of the NIMS instructor packet and mail it to the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security. Please include with the application all required documentation for verification. Upon approval of your application, you should receive an instructor card with your state NIMS Instructor number for the use in future course authorizations. Please follow the instructions found in the document link below.
Following approval NIMS instructors must attend the first available NIMS instructor workshop for instructions on how to schedule NIMS courses as well as receive their CD with NIMS instructor materials. Workshops are scheduled three times a year, (early spring, summer and fall) at various locations across the state. These workshops are 1/2 day in length and you may register on line from our training Calendar website: http://www.ok.gov/homeland/courses/search_training_events.php

Instructor Renewal Process:
At this time the only requirement for renewal is that you attend at least ONE NIMS Instructor workshop during your 2 year instructor certification period. Workshops are scheduled three times a year, (early spring, summer and fall) at various locations across the state. Please complete a new NIMS instructor Application prior to your expiration date so that the OKOHS will have current contact information. Supporting NIMS instructor information does not need to be re-sent unless you are upgrading to a higher level of NIMS instructor. Instructors upgrading their NIMS instructor status are required to send all required documentation along with the application.

NIMS Instructor Courses are designed for personnel with extensive Incident Management training and experience. Instructors may schedule and teach in-house NIMS courses at any time; however they must contact OSUFST at 1-800-304-5727 at least 30 days in advance of the start date to allow adequate time for materials to be produced and shipped to your location.
