Oklahoma Cancer Research Registry

The Oklahoma Cancer Research Registry is a new branch of the Oklahoma Central Cancer Registry (OCCR) that was created to help facilitate cancer research to advance knowledge in the causes of cancer, its prevention and treatment.  The purpose of the Oklahoma Cancer Research Registry is to facilitate epidemiologic and clinical research studies by providing rapid case identification and related services.

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1.4 million new cases of cancer were diagnosed in 2008.  Scientific discoveries are constantly providing insights in to the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer.  Cancer clinical trials are a critical part of that process.  Only about 4% of adults with cancer participate in clinical trials.  The more people who participate in cancer studies, the faster important research questions can be answered that will lead to better treatment and prevention options for all cancers.
