What is the most rewarding experience you have had in public health?
I find it rewarding to be able to help the citizens of Oklahoma and knowing that I am a small piece of the public health response team who is there to provide support for the citizens.
How did you start working in public health?
I had a friend who worked in public health and talked about all the things that they did to assist the people of Oklahoma. I found it very interesting so when a position became open, I applied.
Can you share a few highlights of your experience in public health in Oklahoma? What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I get the opportunity to work with response partners from different state and local agencies. We all work together to assist the community in need during a disaster or infectious disease outbreak.
In your role, how do you educate people about public health?
I work with local health departments and health care coalitions to develop and conduct exercises and training to help us be better prepared during a disaster or infectious disease outbreak.
What is the most difficult part of your job?
We are called to respond during disasters such as severe weather, tornadoes and infectious disease outbreaks. We help people when it is probably one of the worst times of their lives and it can be really heartbreaking.

It is a rewarding career to be able to serve the community
