Pool Operator Classes
8/3/2020: The Certified Pool Operator exam may now be taken online. If an operator takes the online exam, please print their results and have them available at an inspector's request. A score of 20 or above is considered passing. The Pool Operator Training Manual is available and may be used in preparing for the exam. A recorded pool school can also be viewed online.
If your facility is in either Tulsa City-County limits or Oklahoma City-County limits you must attend training at those Health Departments, whose links are listed here:
For all other counties, the pool operator training classes will be listed below and updated often starting on February 15th. Classes are offered at varying locations across the state beginning in March through Memorial Day. Classes are subject to both instructor and classroom availability and also require a minimum number of participants. If you do not see a class scheduled for your area, please contact your local sanitarian to inquire about the possibility of scheduling a class. All attendees must present a picture ID, as well as complete the Affidavit of Lawful Presence. Approved aliens are also required to provide a copy of authorizing documents at sign-in. Please direct questions to the appropriate e-mail contact listed for the class you are interested in attending.
Please contact the person listed to ensure class is not full and plan to arrive 30 minutes before scheduled start time to complete registration. Classes are 4 hours in duration. Certificates will now be good for 3 years.
All 2020 Oklahoma State Department of Health Pool Schools have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency. Please watch for updates to this page regarding alternative options, or check the Oklahoma City or Tulsa county health department links above.

Pool Operators who have previously passed an Oklahoma approved course may elect to take a Pool Operator Challenge Exam instead of attending a Pool Operator Course. A Pool Operator Certificate valid for 3 years from the examination date will be awarded if a score of 70% or higher is achieved. Contact your local health department sanitarian if you are interested in taking the Pool Operator Challenge Exam. The Pool Operator Training Manual is available and may be used in preparing for this exam. A recorded pool school can also be viewed online.
Many documents mentioned in the video may be found in the Pool Operator Training Manual.
