Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign Meeting to Discuss Fair Housing Month & National Public Health Week

This month’s meeting will serve to recognize and promote “Fair Housing Month” and “National Public Health Week.” OHEC will partner with Metropolitan Fair Housing of Oklahoma, Progressive Independence, OKC Housing Authority, Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency, Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, Oklahoma Public Health Association, and the City of Oklahoma City’s Strong Neighborhoods Initiative.
Bob Miner, clean indoor air coordinator for the OSDH Center for the Advancement of Wellness, will present “A Breath of Fresh Air,” focusing on smoke free and tobacco free multi-unit housing.
Amy Gioletti, an equal opportunity specialist with Housing and Urban Development, will present “Fair Housing: Special Emphasis on Reasonable Accommodations,” discussing how disability and health issues affected by smoking and environmental issues can trigger Fair Housing Act claims.
Jeff Hughes, executive director of Progressive Independence, will present "Increasing Safe, Affordable, Accessible, Housing in Oklahoma - A Framework for Change,” discussing legislative recommendations from the Disability Caucus to reduce the daily challenges of living with a disability.
The mission of the Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign is to maximize the health potential of all Oklahomans through resources and opportunities available in local communities. “Having homes that are safe and free from physical hazards and harmful exposures will enable good physical and mental health for individuals and families,” said Richard Marshall, Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign chairman.
