The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is proud to welcome Dr. Harvey Karp, nationally renowned pediatrician, child development specialist and assistant professor at Keck School of Medicine at USC. “An Afternoon with Dr. Harvey Karp” will feature two specialized presentations at the Metro Technology Center, 1900 Springlake Drive, Oklahoma City on April 12, from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.

Dr. Karp's work on infant calming and sleep and his toddler emotional development techniques has been featured nationally. His multiple parenting DVD’s and books have made him America's most read pediatrician. He is also a trusted authority on children's environmental health and breastfeeding, serving on several advisory boards and receiving numerous honors and awards for his work. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The first presentation by Dr. Karp is “The Happiest Baby” which covers calming a crying baby, boosting sleep and reducing abuse, postpartum depression and SIDS. This will be followed by, “The Happiest Toddler” outlining a new way to talk to toddlers ages eight months to five years, how to boost good behavior and reduce tantrums.

Smart Start Oklahoma will also present a screening of “The Raising of America”, a documentary which explores how a lack of focus on early child health and development can have lasting effects on children.

These presentations are geared for a general target group including but not limited to leaders in the field of child abuse prevention, home visitors, child advocates, parents, early childhood educators, and anyone interested in learning more about young children.
