OKLAHOMA HEALTH EQUITY CAMPAIGN MEETING SET FOR APRIL

The Oklahoma State Health Department (OSDH) will host the next Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign (OHEC) Meeting on Thursday, April 14 at 2 p.m. (1000 NE 10th St., Oklahoma City). The meeting provides OHEC an opportunity to interact with state and local partners to highlight community health initiatives in which they are involved.

This month’s meeting will serve to recognize and promote “Fair Housing Month” and “National Public Health Week.” OHEC will partner with the Metropolitan Fair Housing of Oklahoma, Progressive Independence, OKC Housing Authority, Oklahoma Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials and the Oklahoma Public Health Association.

Bob Miner, clean indoor air coordinator for the Center for the Advancement of Wellness at OSDH, will present “A Breath of Fresh Air,” focusing on smoke free and tobacco free multi-unit housing.

Amy Gioletti, an equal opportunity specialist with HUD, will present “Fair Housing: Special Emphasis on Reasonable Accommodations,” discussing how disability and health issues affected by smoking and environmental issues can trigger Fair Housing Act claims.

Jeff Hughes, executive director of Progressive Independence, will present "Increasing Safe, Affordable, Accessible, Housing in Oklahoma - A Framework for Change,” discussing legislative recommendations from the Disability Caucus to reduce the daily challenges of living with a disability.

Seats are limited. To confirm your participation in Oklahoma City or check the availability of your local health department, call (405) 271-9444, ext. 56543 or email karlab@health.ok.gov.
