Free Children’s Car Seat Check This Saturday

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) will sponsor a free “Car Seat Check Event” this Saturday, June 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the agency’s offices located at 1000 NE 10th Street in Oklahoma City.

Infant and children’s car seats will be checked for correct installation. Replacement seats will be available to families that currently receive WIC (Women, Infants and Children Program), are WIC-eligible, or who are on SoonerCare.

Proper car seat installation is important to help prevent deaths and serious injuries during car crashes. According to the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office, in 2011, 4,288 children, infant to age 8, were occupants in motor vehicle crashes. Child safety seats reduce the risk of death in a crash by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers.

For more information about this Saturday’s car seat check event, contact the OSDH Injury Prevention Service at 271-3430 and ask for Regina McCurdy or Alisha Hemani.
