Update -- Winter Storm Injury Statistics

Winter storm-related injuries reported at hospitals throughout Oklahoma this week now total more than 802, the Oklahoma State Department of Health announced today. Of that number, 557 injuries were attributed to falls.

For Friday alone, 275 injuries were reported with 206 of those recorded as falls.

Additional snowfall combined with thawing and melting will provide treacherous conditions as Oklahomans venture outside this weekend to clear porches, sidewalks and vehicles, and travel  to replenish grocery supplies and fuel for their vehicles.  Persons should carry a fully-charged cell phone in case they need to summon help.

A summary of all winter storm-related injuries since the snow began follows:

Falls: 557
Transportation Related: 121
Cuts/Piercings: 76
Struck by/Against: 27
Poisonings: 17
Exposure: 4
Total: 802

Winter weather precautions are available on the Oklahoma State Department of Health Web site at www.health.ok.gov.
