________ County Health Department Reminds Parents About Second H1N1 Flu Shot For Children Under 10

The _____ County Health Department is reminding parents of children under age 10 who have had the H1N1 vaccination that they need to make sure their child receives a second booster vaccination for H1N1.

 “Children under 10 need the second shot to maximize the effectiveness of the vaccination,” said _____ County Health Department Administrative Director _____. “The second shot should be given 30 days after the initial dose.”

Children ages 6 months through 9 years of age need two doses of H1N1 influenza vaccine to have the best protection against H1N1 influenza. The doses should be separated by at least four weeks. A longer interval between doses is acceptable.

In addition to the ______ County Health Department, both H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine may be available through private sources such as local pharmacies, vaccine providers, and private physicians. 

“Remember that getting both H1N1 and seasonal vaccinations are the best way to prevent the flu,” _____ said.
