Additional Seasonal Flu Vaccine Arrives in State

Oklahomans still interested in getting a seasonal flu vaccination should check with their local county health department for availability. The Oklahoma State Department of Health announced today that the final shipment of seasonal flu vaccine for the 2009-2010 flu season – 45,000 doses – has been delivered to local county health departments.

“Each year the State Department of Health provides approximately 15 percent of the seasonal flu vaccine in Oklahoma,” said Don Blose, chief, Immunization Service.  “With this shipment we have received all of the seasonal vaccine ordered for this year.  We continue to receive shipments of the H1N1 vaccine and anticipate continuing to provide this vaccination well into next year.  The best way to prevent the flu is to receive both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccinations.”

Additional seasonal flu vaccine may be available through private sources such as local pharmacies, vaccine providers, and private physicians.  H1N1 vaccine continues to be available to all Oklahomans through county health departments and private physicians.

For more information about the availability of seasonal influenza vaccine in your area, call your local county health department or visit www.health.ok.gov.
