Training Slated for Caring Hearts Nursing Home Volunteers, April 6

Caring Hearts of Oklahoma will hold two training sessions for volunteers who want to help make personalized visits to nursing home residents. The training is open to anyone interested in helping improve the quality of life for frail elderly people.
Training sessions will be held on Thursday, April 6, at 3 p.m. and again at 6 p.m. at Bradford Village Retirement Community, 300 Enz, Edmond.

Caring Hearts of Oklahoma is a volunteer initiative by the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) that seeks volunteers willing to be trained to enhance the quality of life for more than 23,000 frail and elderly people living in Oklahoma’s 375 nursing homes.

Volunteers will provide personalized visits to nursing home residents and help with other activities. Caring Hearts of Oklahoma requires volunteers to make a commitment to complete a training program, and then reach out to people with physical and mental restrictions that require 24-hour care.

Opportunities to volunteer at Bradford Village Retirement Community include: room visits, reading books or magazines, crafts, reading mail, conversation, walks out of doors, scrap booking, worship service helper, community event coordination, pen pal or entertaining with your special talent.

For more information please contact Leslie Elliott, OSDH Caring Hearts Volunteer Coordinator at 405-323-5760 or John Davidson, Activity Coordinator at Bradford Village at 405-341-0810.
