Kids Get Fit With WIC Comes to Southwest Oklahoma

A special nutrition health fair featuring fun, “kid friendly” events is planned for children in the Altus area in March.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health’s Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC) is sponsoring a “Kids Get Fit with WIC” Nutrition Fair. The event will be conducted for Head Start children in Altus on March 10-12.

“We are excited about this event,” said Traci Lundy, MS, R.D./L.D., director of Nutrition, Education, and Training for the WIC Service. “This is a great opportunity to encourage children to develop healthy eating habits to maximize their growth and development and learning readiness.”

Five stations will be set up for separate groups of ten children each. All the groups will simultaneously rotate though each activity. The stations will include a puppet show, fruit and vegetable taste testing, a visit from the tooth fairy at dental health, Food Guide Pyramid hat making, and the Wheel of Food game. The event climax is a life-size puppet production featuring Pecos Pyramid and his Food Group Gang.

“We hope the children will gain valuable information about health and nutrition by having fun,” said Lundy.
