Cancer Information Line Available for Oklahoma Women

The Take Charge! program of the Oklahoma State Department of Health is delighted to announce a new service for Oklahoma women provided by the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Information Service (CIS).

When women call the CIS with questions about mammography, they have always received information, materials and referrals -- free of charge. But now, as part of a new service, women who qualify for the Take Charge! program, will not only be given appropriate materials and information, but they will be transferred directly to the clinic nearest to their home. This transfer will enable them to make an appointment without having to call multiple places. It also may save them money on long distance charges.

The Take Charge! program provides free mammograms to women between 50 to 64 years of age, who have no insurance, Medicare or Medicaid and meet state poverty income guidelines.

The CIS is a public service of the National Cancer Institute that provides cancer information and materials nationwide. The toll free number is 1-800-4-CANCER. Phone lines are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
