National Public Health Week is April 1- 7

Healthy People in Healthy Communities is the theme of this year's National Public Health Week, April 1 - 7. The _____ County Health Department is working together with community partners to promote healthy lifestyles as a priority educational effort to improve health for all ages.

"National Public Health Awareness Week provides health professionals the opportunity to share with others the public health success stories such as overcoming polio, smallpox, diphtheria, typhoid fever, reduction in childhood blood lead levels, reduction of tooth decay through fluoridation, and improved outreach efforts to immunize children," said _____County Health Department Administrator _____.

"Public health provides services that determine the quality of life of our families and communities. It takes a lot of coordination of individuals, organizations, and community partners to protect the health and safety of Oklahomans," said _____.

Public health is credited with improvements in health status that have increased life expectancy in Oklahoma by 50 years since the beginning of the 20th century. Health professionals use population-based strategies for disease and injury prevention that have led to declines in illnesses, injuries, and chronic and infectious diseases. New and re-emerging health threats have led to such recent efforts as testing samples in public health labs for anthrax, and the efforts to protect the public's health from second-hand smoke, tuberculosis, and health threats after natural disasters.
