Sooner Spring Bioterrorism Excercise Timelines

Note to Editors: This is the fifth of a series of weekly media advisories on Sooner Spring.

Work continues on the preparation and planning for the Sooner Spring bioterrorism exercises which will begin on April 12th and continue through the 13th at multiple locations across the state.

These locations include Tulsa, McAlester, Lawton and Oklahoma City. The training exercises will assist in developing the plans for how each of these areas would respond to different diseases as bioterrorism threats. Three cities will have mock outbreaks of potentially deadly diseases. Tulsa will have a mock outbreak of smallpox; McAlester, pneumonic plague; and Lawton, botulism.

As a part of this preparation, each of the areas involved are developing timelines which will determine who will be where and at what time. Below are the draft timelines for Tulsa, McAlester and Lawton, as well as for activities involving the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile and the Oklahoma City VA Medical center.

Again it should be noted that this is a training exercise and not a real outbreak of disease.
