Sex Offender Management and Treatment Training Offered

To improve the skills of professionals who are responsible for the management and treatment of sexual offenders, several agencies are joining together to offer specialized training.

Sex Offender Management and Treatment will be offered Tuesday, April 11, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma, Constitution Hall. This training is co-sponsored by the University of Central Oklahoma's Department of Sociology and the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Sexual Assault Prevention Education Program with support by: Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Oklahoma Probation and Parole, Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police, Oklahoma Council on Violence Prevention, and the Oklahoma Criminal Justice Resource Center.

The course presenter is G. Richard Kishur, Ph.D., of Oklahoma City. Dr. Kishur has published a comprehensive treatment program for adult sex offenders and has designed youth and adult treatment programs in correctional, hospital and community settings.

Among the topics participants will study include sex offender treatment for an adult probation and parole population; characteristics, motivations and grooming behaviors in victim selection; techniques offenders use to manipulate staff; and collaboration strategies used by criminal justice and law enforcement officers and therapists to increase public safety.

Continuing education credits have been applied for CLEET, LMFT, and LPC Certification. Seating is limited for this COST FREE presentation, and registration is required. For registration information, contact Kathy Middleton, coordinator of the state health department's

Sexual Assault Prevention Education Program at 405/271-4072, ext. 57107, or e-mail kathymm@health.state.ok.us.
