Shady Schools Are Cool!

The Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (OSDH) is partnering with Oklahoma Forestry Services and the Oklahoma Urban & Community Forestry Council, to promote sun safety and celebrate trees with the 2011 Oklahoma Arbor Week Poster Contest.

Fifth Graders across Oklahoma are invited to participate in the poster contest, as well as home school associations, scout and civic groups.

The contest is based on a classroom activity from the EPA's SunWise Tool Kit, titled "Map a SunWise Town".  The Tool Kit can be ordered from the EPA at no charge, by signing up to be a SunWise school or community.

Top prizes awarded include a special tree planting project and ceremony at the student's school during Oklahoma's Arbor Week, the last FULL week in March.

For more information on the impact trees have on our lives, review the two following documents.

If you are thinking a year ahead, sow a seed.
If you are thinking ten years ahead, plant a tree.
If you are thinking one hundred years ahead, educate the people.                                              -- Chinese Poet, 500 BC
