SoonerStart/Early Intervention

Learning to read

Our early intervention services are provided for eligible children (newborn-3 years of age) and their families.  Children are determined eligible with an automatically qualifying condition or syndrome (for example: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and etc.) or through developmental testing. 

Developmental testing is available for the following areas:


-Personal/Social
-Self-Help
-Gross/Fine motor
-Receptive/ Expressive Language
-Cognition
-Hearing
-Vision

Intervention services may include:
-Parent education
-Nutrition
-Nursing
-Speech/Language therapy
-Physical therapy
-Occupational therapy
-Audiology
-Social work

-Child Development Services
-Vision Consultant
-Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consultant
-Resource coordinator services

Services are offered at no charge to families regardless of insurance or income. Appointments can be arranged to meet the needs of the family and can be provided in a safe and natural environment for the child, such as home or daycare, but families are also welcome to come to the county health department as needed.

Q: Who can make a referral to SoonerStart?
A: Any one. We accept referrals from friends, families, and other agencies.

Q: How do I know if my child qualifies?
A: You can call and speak to the Resource Coordinator and she will help set up an appointment for a screening and/or evaluation.
