SoonerStart/Early Intervention 

SoonerStart is Oklahoma’s early intervention program. It is designed to meet the needs of families with infants or toddlers with developmental delays. In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) the program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infant’s or toddler’s learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

Who’s Eligible?

Infants and toddlers through 36 months of age, who have developmental delays, or have a physical or mental condition (such as Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc.), which most likely causes a developmental delay, are eligible.

Cost

Services are offered at no direct charge to families regardless of their income. This program is mandated by federal and state law and is funded through various state and federal sources.

SoonerStart services may be provided in the child’s home or daycare, and could extend to other settings within the community.

SoonerStart Family Visit

Services

SoonerStart services may include:

• Diagnostic and evaluation services

• Case management

• Family training, counseling, and home visits

• Certain health services

 

 

• Nursing services

• Nutrition services

• Occupational, physical, and speech-language services

• Special instruction
