Public Health Youth Advisory Board

The Garfield County Health Department is proud to host the Public Health Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for the coming 2016-2017 school year. The YAB will meet once a month for an hour long meeting after school. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Garfield County Health Department at 2501 Mercer Drive in Enid. Snacks will be provided.

The purpose of the YAB is to enhance the health and well-being of adolescents and their families throughout the county and Oklahoma. Students will serve as a representative body of Garfield County High School students and provide valuable perceptions for the local health department and the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). Students will be expected to share their knowledge and experiences as a YAB member with their fellow peers in an effort to promote prevention and provide support if necessary.

Becoming a YAB member will further develop the student’s community health involvement and can serve as a valuable point of reference on college applications. They will also receive personalized T-shirts, letters of recommendation (upon request), and a better understanding of public health infrastructure. We ask that students be able to attend 80% of monthly meetings and participate in community events whenever possible.

Applications will be accepted throughout the summer and are due no later than September 1 2016.
