TEEN BIRTHS IN OKLAHOMA

Oklahoma's teen birth rate is significantly higher than the national average, although it is improving.  A report from the National Center for Health Statistics shows that for 2014:

  • The birth rate for Oklahoma teens aged 15-19 years was 38.5 births per 1,000 females aged 15-19.
  •  
  • The national birth rate for 15-19 year olds was 24.2 births per 1,000 females aged 15-19. 
  •  
  • Compared to other states in the nation, including the District of Columbia, Oklahoma ranked:
  •  
    •  2nd highest for teen birth rates for 15-19 year olds
    •  
    •  5th highest for teen birth rates for 15-17 year olds
    •  
    •  2nd highest for teen birth rates for 18-19 year olds
    •   
  • Approximately 13 teen girls give birth every day in Oklahoma.
