First Line Supervision

The first-line supervisor plays a critical role in virtually every aspect of the agency.

toward the effective delivery of police services. Also among the supervisors’ many
responsibilities are setting the tone of field officers toward policies and procedures,
ensuring appropriate discipline when necessary, mentoring officers in their command,
and serving as the communication link between management and line officers.
It is their skill which defines the service that brands the department and in many ways
determines agency success or failure in their communities. There are core skills essential
