Are Chiropractors allowed to do school physicals?

1.  Are Chiropractors allowed to do school physicals?

Yes. There is no legal reason or impediment precluding chiropractic physicians from performing physical examinations for students.

2.  If I am only practicing a couple of hours a week, do I still have to provide proof of malpractice insurance?

Yes. The law states that if you are in active practice you must provide proof of malpractice insurance.

3.  Can I charge a search and recovery fee for records requested from the patient or authorized agent?

No. Under Title 76 O.S. 19A2 of the Oklahoma Statutes it states "...institutions may charge a patient for the actual cost of mailing the patient's requested medical records, but may not charge a fee for searching, retrieving, reviewing, and preparing medical records of the person."

4.  Are complaints available for the public to view?

No. Complaints are not a matter of public record.

5.  I have a patient who has an outstanding balance and refuses to pay. Do I still have to release the patients medical records?

Yes. Under OAC 140:15-7-5 of the Oklahoma Chiropractic Practice Act unpaid charges incurred by the patient is not grounds for refusal to release medical records.

6.  Are Chiropractors allowed to sign Birth and Death Certificates?

Under Title 59 O.S. 161.15 of the Oklahoma Chiropractic Practice Act and Section 1-317 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statues Chiropractors are allowed to sign all certificates, including those relating to public health, the same as doctors of medicine and surgery and doctors of osteopathic medicine, and with like effect.

1.  What is the fee for license renewal this year?

Active License: $275.00; Inactive Resident: $100.00; Inactive Non-Resident: $175.00; Retired: $50.00.

2.  When is my license renewal due each year?

Your renewal, proof of malpractice (if applicable) and fees must be received at the board office or post marked no later than July 1st of each year.

3.  How can I renew my Oklahoma license?

All license renewals are processed through our Thentia Licensee Portal. The Board Office is no longer accepting payment in the form of a check for license renewals.

1.  How can I obtain an Application for Licensure?

All application for licensure(s) in the State of Oklahoma are now processed through our Thentia online system. You can access the online system under our Applicant's tab(s).

2.  I received my temporary license letter but, when will I receive my actual wall license?

Timelines will vary. Once you have a temporary license, it will go before the next regular scheduled Board Meeting for official approval. Thereafter, the wall license will be ordered and mailed to the address on file once it is received in the Board Office.

Continuing Education

1.  How many hours do I need?

To renew a chiropractic license in the state of Oklahoma, you must have sixteen (16) continuing education hours from CE-approved chiropractic college, a state chiropractic association, or a state board of chiropractic examiners. Eight (8) of these hours are mandatory in state. The other eight (8) can be done online or out of state, as long as it was approved by the Board.

2.  When do I need to get continuing education hours?

These hours must be received between July 1st through June 30th of the next year.

3.  If I get an additional hours, will those count for next renewal period?

No, all we require are sixteen (16) hours. Any additional hours will not count.

4.  How do I know if a seminar was approved?

You can always find this information on the website under the 'Continuing Education' tab. If it is listed on the website, it has been approved. The Board office keeps it updated.
