Oklahoma ABLE Tech is Oklahoma's Assistive Technology Act Program that contracts with the Oklahoma State Department of Education to provide assistive technology (AT) services and training for Oklahoma students, educators, and parents. ABLE Tech AT Support Team Workshops help school districts build capacity to provide quality AT to help students achieve success.
In 2017-18, ABLE Tech is introducing some new programming for teachers and administrators along with opportunities that have been updated for the upcoming year. Here's a matrix of these offerings:
ABLE Tech's In-Person
ABLE Tech is offering three workshops for the fall which will be repeated in the spring. School districts are invited to form "AT Support Teams" to attend the workshops together.
AT Discovery Webinars
Teams are also encouraged to participate in AT Discovery Webinars, with ABLE Tech staff demonstrating AT and providing training on pertinent AT topics. Three new webinars will be available this fall as well as all past webinars and videos.
Online AT Curriculum
Some students are unable to read standard materials and need Accessible Educational Materials (AEM). ABLE Tech provides training and technical assistance to help schools provide AEM from a variety of sources, including Bookshare!
12 AT Support Teams Can WIN $250 of Assistive Technology!
Twelve AT Support Teams will be awarded $250 of AT devices to be used with students in their district! Winners will be chosen randomly from the list of teams submitting assignments by deadline. All AT Teams must submit a success story including narrative, photo of student using AT, along with necessary signed photo release forms to qualify for the drawing.
Are the Workshops Really FREE?
Yes! ABLE Tech AT Support Team Workshops are free thanks to a partnership between the State Department of Education and ABLE Tech. The Oklahoma State Department of Education may reimburse your district for paying substitute teachers and other travel-related expenses for you to attend this workshop.
In order to take advantage of this opportunity, districts will need to obtain pre-approval by submitting a request via email to your Compliance, Data, and Finance Specialist.
