Christy McCollough Northcutt to receive Governor's Arts Award

Oklahoma City, OK – Christy McCollough Northcutt, Enid, will be honored by Governor Brad Henry at the 32nd Annual Governor’s Arts Awards. Northcutt will receive a Community Service Award which recognizes individuals for significant contributions to the arts in specific Oklahoma communities in the areas of leadership and volunteerism.

Sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council, 16 individuals and four organizations will be honored for their contributions to the arts in their communities or throughout the state. The ceremony is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28th in the 4th Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol and is open to the public. Presiding at the ceremony will be Council Chair Jim Tolbert and Interim Executive Director Suzanne Tate.

Northcutt has served two terms as president of the Greater Enid Arts & Humanities Council and has been on the Board of Directors since 2002. For the past two years, she has chaired the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Program that is designed to assist arts organizations develop educational partnerships with their local school systems in order to promote the professional development of teachers. During this time, she has planned, raised funds and hosted nine arts education workshops for Enid teachers.

Since 2002, she has also served on the Board of the Enid Symphony Orchestra.
An active volunteer in several other organizations, Northcutt has been involved with the Junior Welfare League of Enid, Junior League of Tulsa, the YWCA, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the March of Dimes. Northcutt received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from William Woods University, Fulton, Missouri.
