Organizational Support Guidelines

Purpose of Organizational Support Program
The Oklahoma Arts Council awards grants for Organizational Support in order to assist established nonprofit arts organizations to maintain and strengthen financial stability, organizational capacity, and art programs provided to the public including outreach to underserved populations.

Deadline

  • March 15 is the deadline for Organizational Support e-grant applications. The required support material including Revenue Statements must be postmarked on or before March 15
  • Late applications and/or late support material will not be reviewed – no exceptions.

Who is Eligible for funding?

  • Only organizations designated by the Oklahoma Arts Council are eligible to apply in this category. Designation is based on the organization’s overall operating budget, stability of the organization, history of compliance with the Council’s guidelines and reporting requirements and type of programming. Organizations must be 501(c)(3) organizations with the arts as the focus of their mission. Organizations are evaluated every two years for admission into this category.
  • Arts organizations must be non-profit, non-religious, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt corporations with primary missions involving one or more of these artistic functions: Producing, Service, Presenting, Education.

Who is Not Eligible?

  • Individuals, schools, universities, entities of government, tribal governments, or any non-profit organization whose primary mission is not the arts.

What are the Funding Limitations?

  • Applicants are ineligible to apply in any other grant category.

What is the Grant Period?

  • This is a single application submitted on a two –year cycle. Separate awards will be made for each year.
  • An Interim Report due March 15 of the off-year is required to initiate funding approval for the second year.

How does the Review Process work?

  • Applications are reviewed and rated by advisory panels made up of mostly out of state individuals with expertise in the required area or field.
  • Emphasis for the application will be on activities that have taken place in the previous grant period.
  • Applicants will be penalized for incomplete or unclear applications.
  • Organizations should take into consideration that panelist have little or no knowledge of the applicant other than what is presented in the application and that Council staff will not provide any additional information to panelists.

How is Funding Determined?

  • Award for the first year, beginning July 1 and ending June 30, is based on the organization’s budget, panel review of the application and available funds appropriated to the Oklahoma Arts Council.
  • Awards for the second year (off-year) beginning July 1 and ending June 30 will be based upon the original application’s panel ratings, the organization’s ability to comply with reporting requirements including the Interim Report, the stability of the organization, and the Oklahoma Arts Council’s appropriations.
