Position Announcement

The Oklahoma Arts Council is the state government agency responsible for increasing the access Oklahomans have to the arts by providing services and grants in the arts and arts education. The offices of the Oklahoma Arts Council are in Oklahoma City.

Position Description
The position of Arts Education Director supports the advancement of arts education in K-12 schools throughout Oklahoma. The director will cultivate the agency relationship with school district administrators, K-12 teachers, arts organizations’ education personnel and teaching artists to promote access to arts education programming in all parts of the state. The director is responsible for providing resources that facilitate arts education, curriculum development and teacher training to constituents and serves as liaison to state, national and regional arts education organizations.

Responsibilities
The position has the primary responsibility of administering the Arts Education in Schools grants program. The director will clearly articulate grant procedures and guidelines, discern quality arts instruction and assess constituents’ needs regarding arts education. The director will help facilitate school sites/districts’ development of arts education plans and program evaluation. In addition, the director will help facilitate the development of a service-learning program to increase resources available to rural school districts.

Qualifications
The position requires at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in arts education, arts administration or fine arts and at least three years experience in arts instruction, curriculum development and/or arts education administration. Supervisory and training experience is desired.

Applicant must have in-depth knowledge of the arts and should be familiar with age-appropriate arts instruction and student learning. Applicant must have in-depth understanding of K-12 school culture, curriculum and learning. Applicant must have skills in group facilitation, listening, and writing. Ability in public speaking is essential. Applicant should have a demonstrated ability to work as a team member with an emphasis on collaboration. Applicant must also have strong computer skills and have proficiency in Microsoft Office. In-state travel is required.

Compensation
Salary Range: $38,000 - $43,500. This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including paid health, dental, life and disability insurance for the employee and 75% paid health insurance for dependents as well as an option to participate in the State’s tax-deferred annuity program.
