Will Rogers once said he never met a man he didn’t like. Oklahoma continues to be known for its friendly and welcoming spirit. Visitors from across the nation and world who visit our state see first-hand the hospitality and quality of life we as Oklahomans enjoy. In addition to our open arms, Oklahoma is experiencing a true renaissance and there has not been a better time than now to visit our great state.
Our family continues to live out my belief that Oklahoma has enjoyable venues for a “stay-cation.” For our 15thwedding anniversary, fall break and spring break, we chose to stay in Oklahoma. We love the outdoors and the opportunity to allow our kids to learn and experience their home state in various ways. Whether it is a lodge on a lake, hiking trails, a bed and breakfast, a spa, unique shopping and historic venues, Oklahoma has endless possibilities to be a destination location for our people.
On March 25th in Washington D.C., I made the official bid to host the 2013 annual Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) meeting here in Oklahoma. The bid was accepted and I am excited to begin laying the groundwork for this conference. In my bid to host the 2013 conference, I showcased Oklahoma and what we have to offer visitors from across the nation.
This conference is just one way we can move our state forward and put Oklahoma on the map. As I challenged last month, let’s engage in economic development, together. Let’s engage in attracting more tourism to our state, together. More and more conferences should make their way to Oklahoma because we are a welcoming, diverse state that has the chance to enrich the lives of other. This task cannot be accomplished alone. I challenge you to think of a board or association where you are a member or serve. Where is their next annual meeting? Make it Oklahoma.
Over the course of one hundred years, we have proven we can grow and we can prosper. Let’s showcase Oklahoma, full speed ahead. As always, my office is open and ready to assist you in any way we can. Feel free to visit our website at www.ok.gov/ltgovernoror call our office at 405.521.2161.
