Prescription Quantity Change – 90-Day Prescription
Posted10/23/12

Pre-Medicare Members

Effective January 1, 2012, pre-Medicare members can obtain a 90-day prescription of their long-term medications. Providers should be certain that a prescription is written for 90 days in order to maximize the member’s benefits.

Note: Certain medications or categories of drugs may have quantity limits or FDA regulations that may preclude members from obtaining the 90-day supply.

Medicare Members

Effective January 1, 2013, Medicare members can also obtain a 90-day supply of their long-term medications.

Until the end of this year, prescriptions should be written for the greater of a 34-day supply or 100 units. In January of next year, however, providers should write the prescription for 90 days in order to provide HealthChoice members with the maximum benefit per copay.

Note: Certain medications or categories of drugs may have quantity limits or FDA regulations that may preclude members from obtaining the 90-day supply.
