HB 1275 – The Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act

HB 1275, the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act, became effective November 1, 2011. The Act standardized the titles of nursing professionals who are licensed and/or certified by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.

The bill changed certain nursing titles to include the designation APRN (advanced practice registered nurse). The APRN title applies to the following nursing licenses/certifications:

  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP)

The Oklahoma State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board, a division of the Office of State Finance, will use the following nursing titles:

  • APRN-CRNA
  • APRN-CNS
  • APRN-CNM
  • APRN-CNP
